ACH Cut-Off Times and Funding Targets
Understanding the Timing Columns
Cut-Off Time: The deadline by which a payment must be submitted to Straddle to qualify for that processing window.
Target Distribution: The target time when Straddle receives settled funds from the Federal Reserve, enabling us to initiate the funding event to your account.
Target Funding Event: The target time when funds would arrive in your account, assuming next-day funding with no additional hold times.
If your account has funding hold times (found in capabilities settings), this target time still applies — it simply shifts to the corresponding time on whichever day your funds are scheduled to be released based on your hold period.
ACH Cut-off Times
Processing Window | Cut-off Time |
|---|---|
Same-Day ACH Window #1 | 8:30 AM EST |
Same-Day ACH Window #2 | 12:45 PM EST |
Same-Day ACH Window #3 | 2:15 PM EST** (many banks don't offer this window so payments would go overnight) |
Standard (overnight) ACH Window | 8:00 PM EST |
IMPORTANT: Times reflect targets, they are not exact times. Exact timing will depend on the banks. Your account's funding event hold times (capabilities settings) will determine the day funds are actually available.
Target Funds Distribution & Funding
Target Distribution (Funds to Straddle FBO) | Target Funding Event (Funds to Customer) |
|---|---|
Window #1 Noon EST | 1:00 PM EST – current day |
Window #2 4:00 PM EST | 5:00 PM EST – current day |
Window #3 5:30 PM EST | 6:00 PM EST *** -current day (many banks don't offer this window so payments would fund by 8am ET next day) |
Overnight Window 10:00 PM EST | 8:00 AM EST - next day |
The earlier a Same-Day ACH payment is delivered to the Federal Reserve, the sooner the payment will post to the receiver's bank account that day.
Standard ACH
With standard ACH, transactions are cleared overnight. Straddle's sponsor bank (the ODFI) sends the transaction to the customer's bank (the RDFI). Once the RDFI receives the transaction, it has two banking days to return the entry to the ODFI. If no return is received within that window, the transaction is considered successful.
Same-Day ACH
With Same-Day ACH, the effective date of the charge occurs the same day (rather than overnight/next day), provided the transaction is submitted before one of the cut-off windows listed above.
The RDFI still has two banking days to return the entry. However, because the effective date is the same day the transaction was submitted, the return window begins sooner — meaning you gain certainty about successful transactions faster in calendar time.
Benefits of Same-Day ACH Processing
Earlier charge posting: Charges are debited from your customers' accounts sooner than with standard ACH, giving you higher priority in the posting order and faster access to funds.
Earlier return window start: Because the effective date is the same day, the two-banking-day return window begins sooner. This means you gain certainty about successful charges in fewer calendar days.
Accelerated funding: Funding events for Same-Day ACH charges reach your bank account one day sooner than standard ACH charges.
Faster payouts: payouts can be delivered to customers, employees, vendors, or other recipients on the same day if they're submitted by the first window.
